Translation of the inscription: During the war of independence, this building served as a fortress of the subjects of the Spanish crown, and the insurgente army commanded by Don Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla fought and won here its first battle for the liberty of México. TTT

Translation of the inscription: From 1864 to 1949, by decree of Maximilian of Hapsburg, the Alhóndiga was converted into a jail, and later into the penetenciary of the state, and was rescued from this unworthy use and converted into a museum - the restoration and re-adaptation into a museum was completed in 1967.
